On the evening of Saturday July 24th 2010. Squad 35 as well as Stations 40 and 41 were dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle accident with entrapment on Route 88/ Beaver Dam Road. Upon arrival of Captain 350 entrapment of two victims was confirmed and initial report of 4 injuries. A request for all units from Squad 35 to respond.
Upon continued assessment of the Scene Captain 350 established ems command and requested a unit form Point Beach EMS to assist. At this time patrol advised ems command of additional cars that were involved in accident that were down on Herbertsville Road. Ems command then transmitted to all units that patient count was up to 9 and this was considered a M.C.I (Mass Casualty Incident). Additional ambulances were requested from Point Beach EMS and Brick Police EMS.
Rescue 359, 4003 and 4187 arrived on scene and began extricating the two entrapped victims. A winch was needed to remove a pickup truck out of the rear of a mini van as it was impeding patient care. Rig 358,356 and 357 arrived on location and began triage of victims. 1st Lieutenant Garon was assigned to Handel extrication operations, 1st Sergeant Bowers was assigned to be the transport officer and 2nd Sergeant Lafferty was assigned to be operations at crash site 2.
Rigs 345,344 and 348 from Point Beach EMS arrived on scene and began dispersing their crews and equipment at the discretion on command and assisted in triage. 2nd Sergeant Lafferty then advised he has a three confirmed injuries at crash site 2 and needed additional equipment. Command then advised all crews that patient count was now 11, Ems Command then requested Manasquan and Brielle EMS (Monmouth County).Brick Police Ems(Squad 53) arrived on scene as well as Community EMS (Squad 10 Brick Township). Shortly there after Manasquan EMS and Brielle Ems Arrived on scene.
Manasquan EMS was advised to stage at Squad 35's headquarters and cover any additional calls that were dispatched. Brielle EMS was advised to stage on herbertsville road. Brick EMS and Herbertsville Ems (Brick Township) then arrived on scene.
Victims that were entrapped were removed and fire company began securing fuel leak from the van. Victims once triage and treated were loaded into rigs fro transport to 3 area hospitals (Brick Hospital, Point Urgent Care Center and Jersey Shore Trauma). 1st Sergeant Bowers recorded and advised transport locations as to not overburden area hospitals.
Out of 11 victims 10 were transported by Point Boro EMS, Point Beach EMS and Brick Police EMS. Coverage for the town was provided by Manasquan and Brielle EMS and Equipment and man power was provided by Brick EMS, Community EMS and Herbertsville Ems( Brick Township).
Upon transport of all victims Rescue 359 remained on location until vehicles were removed, Point Beach 345 remained on scene for Fire Department activity. Ems command was terminated and all additional units secured. Manasquan EMS remained at Squad 35 for an additional hour while crews returned from the hospital and restocked units.
All members who responded to this accident were issued a squad commendation.
