The Point Boro First Aid Squad, also designated Ocean County Squad 35, has been serving the Jersey Shore area for over 40 years. We are an all volunteer first aid squad and serve our community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
The squad covers an area of approximately 3 1/2 square miles and answers about 1400 emergency calls a year, as well as providing mutual aid for Point Pleasant Beach, Bay Head, Mantoloking and Brick Township.
Point Pleasant is a resort community in which the population can triple in the three month period during the summer. Point Pleasant is surrounded by water on three sides; Barnegat Bay, Metedeconk River and Beaver Dam Creek. On the east side of town is the borough of Point Pleasant Beach, which borders the Atlantic Ocean on its east end.
Squad 35 responds to all medical emergencies in town, as well as performing extrication and rescue at the scene of motor vehicle accidents and structure fires.
Point Boro First Aid squad houses 3 ambulances that are used on a rotating basis. The squad normally operates with 2 ambulances; two 1 stretcher ambulance used for any call as well as a 2 stretcher ambulance which is primarily used for accidents, fires and water rescue calls.
For motor vehicle accidents, Squad 35 has an extrication rig. The extrication truck has everything needed to remove a victim from a motor vehicle. The squad also has a Dodge pick-up which is used for a variety of reasons. It is used for plowing snow and additional member transport. It is also a rescue truck used for extrication at motor vehicle accidents or at any other rescue. T
he squad's newest transportation addition is their EMS bike. The bike is fully stocked with equipment and is used for stand-by calls, special events happening in the community park as well as other outdoor events. The bike is used at any event with a projected large crowd, like the Seafood Festival in Point Pleasant Beach.
Squad 35 has recently become a part of the Point Pleasant Borough Fire Department Water Rescue Unit. 8 members have joined the ranks of this special unit, 3 of which as Scuba Divers/Water Rescue Techs and 8 of which who are line tenders and Ice Rescue Technicians.
